Romney?s VP app fails to deliver on its promise as Twitter breaks Ryan news first

The "Mitt's VP" app had only one job to do, and it just couldn't get the job done

This weekend in Norfolk, Virginia, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney picked Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate in the November 2012 presidential election. But those who downloaded an app from the Romney campaign designed to deliver first-in-the-nation access to news about the Romney vice presidential pick were disappointed to learn that they'd have been better served just getting the information from NBC News.

Romney's app, Mitt's VP, made the Ryan announcement to supporters at 7:00 a.m. Eastern. Romney introduced the congressman at a rally at 9:29 a.m., and tweeted about the pick minutes after. But news that Romney had chosen Ryan was announced by NBC News at 11:01 p.m. the night before, beating the official app by a solid seven hours.

To be fair, it's not the fault of the Romney campaign that media outlets leaked the information early. President Obama's campaign had the same exact problem in 2008?? it promised text message subscribers first-in-the-nation access to the VP pick, something the service ultimately just couldn't deliver.
