More Maternal Deaths Avoided Worldwide With Contraceptive Usage

Researchers gathered information from the World Health Organization (WHO) about estimated maternal deaths averted every year in 172 countries with effective use of contraceptives. Nearly 38 deaths per 100,000 women currently take place every year. Higher contraceptive usage aims at a childbirth mortality rate decline of 7% per year. In some countries it has even exceeded 60%, which has indicated the same success rate can be achieved in other countries as well.
