Day 3 of the Australian Uni Games on the Gold Coast started early, probably too early for many on the UWA Team. Luckily staff were on hand to provide much needed assistance in getting to those 8am games!
The medal count continued to grow today with the Athletics Women bagging two bronzes for the 400m (Monique Hollick) and the 4x400m relay (Monique Holick, Keely Waters, Catherine Clarke and Amy Murphy). The AFL mens also appear set to take home gold, after trouncing Curtin 133 to 8. They go up against AUC tomorrow for a berth at the gold medal match.
The mens tennis also competed strongly, taking down Tasmania 5-0 and are primed to start their finals tomorrow. The women also won 4-1 over Griffith, finishing at the top of their pool. Handball took out their quarter final 28-23 against Curtin and move into the semi finals tomorrow.
It?s not all gold medals and glory for UWA though. Sadly, squash and soccer mens both suffered losses in todays games. As did Baseball, who went down to Bond, who were reportedly ?less-than-sporting? in their choice of tactics.
The netball womens and ultimate teams also lost games, but by small margins. The netballers made a massive comeback against ECU to lose by a single point.
Squash womens shock off their big night out to win their first game of the day. Sadly their luck didn?t hold, and they went down 3 ? 0 to rivals Melbourne.
