4th man in Army Corps bribe case to remain in jail (AP)

WASHINGTON ? One of four men charged in what federal prosecutors call one of the largest government contracting frauds will remain behind bars.

A lawyer for Harold Babb argued in federal court Tuesday that the evidence against his client was questionable and that he wasn't a danger to the community. But federal prosecutors say they have extensive evidence showing Babb met with a government witness and plotted "classic kickbacks." A federal magistrate ordered him held.

Babb and three others, including two employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, were arrested this month and charged in a $20 million fraud procurement scheme. Prosecutors say the men schemed scheme to steer contracts to a favored information technology subcontractor in exchange for kickbacks that paid for assorted luxuries. The three others also remain held.
